The Arts

"Promotion of the arts is very important to us as we believe that access to a broad and enriched curriculum enables children to discover their potential. An art-rich curriculum provides valuable opportunities for children to develop teamwork and leadership skills in addition to building self- esteem, resilience and self-confidence. We want children to have opportunities to challenge themselves, to question and reflect, to communicate their ideas and look beyond the school and local community. We aim to create an exciting and stimulating learning environment which enhances children’s learning. Our aim is to excite and inspire children to explore and discover their strengths and passions as well as to have fun! We recognise that the opportunities we provide should be inclusive and we aim to ensure there is provision across all areas of the arts, both as discreet subjects and across the wider curriculum. In addition we constantly seek opportunities to provide extra-curricular provision across the arts"

In October 2017 we were delighted to be awarded the Artsmark Silver Award. This celebrates our commitment to arts and cultural education. The Arts Council England commended our school for its whole school planning for the arts and its commitment to the Arts Leadership Team and Governors. They recognised our creativity in forging links with the local community and in using different venues to widen the experience of the pupils, as well as the opportunities we provide for children to participate in a diverse range of arts and cultural experiences.

Looking ahead we aim to explore how to involve our pupils more in shaping their cultural experiences and we are considering how we can offer our expertise in the arts to benefit other local schools.

Our Silver Award is valid for two years and we are currently working towards Artsmark Gold Award.

Our Arts Leadership Team, which includes an Artsmark governor, meets at least once a term to review the Arts provision in the school.

More information can be found about Artsmark on the Artsmark website.
