Phonics Screening Check Information and Resources
All children in Year 1 take a national statutory Phonics Screening Check in June. This is a simple and supportive check where children are asked to read 40 decodable real and pseudo (alien) words. There is a national pass mark which is usually published in July. If a child has not reached the pass mark in Year 1, they will have another opportunity to retake the test in June when they are in Year 2.
