born in a barn 2017
Year 2 were ‘Born in a Barn’
The Year 2 production of 'Born in a Barn' was enjoyed by everyone
last week. The whole of Year 2 (Bumblebee and Caterpillar Classes)
were involved. There was an evening and an afternoon performance,
which were both very well attended.

The story tells the tale of the Nativity from the animals’ point of view.
"There's a good deal of commotion in a Bethlehem stable when the
animals realise that there's a baby in the barn! The cows, sheep, pigs,
cat and cockerel all learn about their special guest from the donkey that
brought the baby along as well as the guests that follow. As more and
more visitors arrive to greet the new king, the animals slowly realise
what a privilege it is to share their home with such an important baby."

Thank you to everyone involved for making it such a success and a big
thank you to all parents for their great support... Dec 2017

Early Years had their first experience of a school outing recently when
they visited the water meadows at St Edmunds School for a forest school

fallen tree and using found objects and their imaginations to play. They
made chocolate milkshake, crocodile food, Stick Man puppets and even
hunted for Gruffalos! Thank you to the parents and grandparents who
came to help... Dec 2017

Year 2 Fire Station Visit
Year 2 had a fun time visiting Bury Fire Station to learn about the job of a
Firefighter and fire safety.

Unfortunately whilst they were there the Firefighters were called out to an
emergency so the children didn’t get a chance to have a go at holding the
hose and squirting the water, but we still had a great time! .. Nov 2017

We are very pleased that our Football Club has at last found a new home.
From this Saturday 18th November Football Club will be held at Howard
Primary School, Beard Road, Bury St Edmunds, IP32 6SA.
New members are always welcome.
Here is a snippet of news from Football Club which is open to all year
groups.  As you can see the season is in full swing.
“Y4 played their second League game V Lawshall and achieved their
second win with a 4-1 victory. The team well supported by Y3 and Y2
players worked hard throughout the game, played some good football
and over the season I am sure will grow into an even better team. Special
mention to George Humpage for scoring 3 goals but well done to everyone
who all played their part. … Y5/Y6 United team played out a 1-1 draw
with Abbots Green Y6 in a game which probably could have gone either
way, but again a great effort from our team and good sportsmanship from
both sides … Y5/Y6 Flyers team lost heavily to Abbots Green Y5 …Well
done to all the children who played in this game. Flyers have faced 2 really
strong Y5 opposing teams in Hardwick and Abbots Green in their first 2
games, so a really difficult start. Special mention to John Hayhoe who
played in goal for the Flyers and despite the score produced some excellent
saves.”   ... Nov 2017

Drama Club
Year 5 and Year 6 have been taking part in an after school drama club
run in collaboration with the Theatre Royal.

We, along with two other local schools, are extremely fortunate to be
working with a playright, Shamser Sinha, to develop material which he
will use in his next play: Abebe's Space Rocket.

It is about a 7 year old girl, Abebe, and her 10 year old brother fleeing
from Eritrea and arriving in rural Suffolk, near Bury St Edmunds, as
refugees and living with a foster family. They go to school for the first
time in their lives and Abebe discovers science and space!

The children will get to watch their play being performed in the summer
and may also develop a piece of drama of their own as a response to this
play to show to parents later in the year... Nov 2017
