Year 5 to Thorpe Woodlands
Year 5 went on their first ever residential course at Thorpe Woodlands
Adventure Centre and had an “amazing time”. They took part in many
activities including high ropes, canoeing, climbing, zip wire and lots
Comments from the children taken from letters of thanks they wrote to
the staff at Thorpe Woodlands included things like:
“I really enjoyed doing the zipline and going down the power fan. I
managed  to climb to the top of the climbing wall when I thought I
couldn’t do it and you really encouraged me.  I had an amazing time”
“Thank you for helping me with the activities and facing my fears. I really
enjoyed caving and the power fan. I didn’t think I could do the zipwire and
I did it twice! Also by doing the zip wire I wasn’t afraid of the power fan.
I really liked how you encouraged me to carry on with the climbing wall.”
“Thank you for keeping me safe and happy at Thorpe Woodlands. It was
brilliant! I really enjoyed the power fan and the zipwire. I thought the fruit
salad on the canoes was really fun but quite challenging.” Emily.

wouldn’t be able to” Freya.... March 2018

Ready Steady Read ‘Sponsored Read’
A total of 105 pupils took part in the sponsored read. All the sponsorship
money has now been received and counted and we are very pleased to
say that the total raised is £1381.32. Two pupils raised more than
£100 each! This is the most amazing total which means that the school can
claim an additional 60% from Usborne. All in all the school will be able to
get over £2000 worth of books which is absolutely fantastic.

We would like to thank everyone who supported and sponsored their
children and of course the children themselves for doing lots of extra
reading which we hope they enjoyed... March 2018

Early Years News
Early Years had an exciting delivery last week of three tractor tyres.
They were still a little bit muddy from their life on the farm so we spent
the morning with buckets and scrubbers giving them a good clean. This
gave us lots of opportunities to explore them close up, use our strong
muscles to scrub them and carry heavy buckets, and improve our
teamwork by sharing tools... March 2018

Sarah Sadler ‘Goes the Extra Mile!’
We nominated our Head of Kitchen Sarah Sadler, for a Vertas ‘Making
the Difference Award’ in recognition of her hard work and dedication,
not only during the building work when she managed to successfully
continue to provide hot meals for our children using another school’s
kitchen in very difficult circumstances, but in all areas of her work. We
were keen for the contribution she has made to our school community
to be fully recognised.
We are very pleased indeed to announce that Sarah won the award.

Pictured (centre) above is Sarah at the awards ceremony with the
other finalists in the ‘Going the Extra Mile’ category. The award ceremony
was held at Kesgrave Hall on Friday where she was treated to a three
course meal (which she didn’t have to cook!) and she also received a gift
voucher. Everyone at School is very proud of her... March 2018

Letter from Mrs Herriott
Dear Parents,

I am writing to inform you that I have made the decision to retire from
my post as Headteacher at Guildhall Feoffment at Easter. It has been
very difficult to make this decision as I absolutely love my job and am
passionate about the role of education in promoting opportunities for
young people and in having a positive impact on social mobility.
Guildhall Feoffment is a very special community and I have been
privileged to work with very skilled professional colleagues and
supportive Governors. I have appreciated the support of the parental
community at our School and it is been a tremendous joy to work with
such wonderful pupils.

I have informed Mrs. Patricia Thomas, Interim Chair of Governors, of
my decision and she will lead the recruitment process to appoint a new
Headteacher with support from Suffolk County Council and fellow
Governors. I am sure that Mrs. Thomas and her colleagues will
appoint a Headteacher who will embrace the opportunities and
challenges that will arise in the future development of Guildhall
Feoffment and who will be enthusiastic and aspirational for the school

I thank you all for your support and for the privilege of working with your

I send my best wishes to you and your families for happiness and
success in 2018.

Yours sincerely,

Sue Herriott
